About

So who am I? I seriously thought about trying to stay semi-anonymous, so I could write critically about people without damaging personal and professional relationships with anyone. But I realized that was really more about secret agent fantasies, me being a coward, and very likely insulting to the multitude of people I know who don’t hate any of the other people who do theatre review in our fair town. I’ve seen really good performances by people I don’t like in real life, bad performances by people I love and respect, and mediocre showings by actors I normally love to watch. None of it is personal, and all of it is only one man’s opinion (mine). I think everyone realizes that, but it never hurts to be reminded.

My name is David Ament, and I came to Las Vegas in December, 2010 from suburban Philadelphia. I’ve been involved with theatre for as far back as I can remember, and was a drama queen even before that (okay, actually a musical theatre queen. I didn’t get into dramas until college). At 19, me and some friends started a community theatre group so we could be more involved on the production end. We did 10 shows over ten years, of which I directed 6, 3 musicals and 3 plays. I also worked with several other groups, both performing and directing, and just about any other aspect of theatre you can think of. I’m better at some things than others. (Seriously, don’t ask me to hang or focus lights, it never ends well. But I can run a light board with the best of them.)

Upon landing in Vegas, I fairly quickly found a show I wanted to audition for, and started being involved with the community here. I’ve done a few shows, and was even given the chance to direct. I’m starting to get more involved with different groups, and getting to know more incredibly talented people in this vast creative community of ours. Hopefully, this will help me contribute even more.
